Capture, Integrate, Reflect and Connect Learning with ePortfolios (CIRCle 2018)

Tuesday, May 1st, 2018
9:30 am to 4:30 pm
Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, Dodson Room (302)

#CIRCLe2018 | #CLW2018

A one-day symposium hosted by UBC Faculty of Arts, partnering with the Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT), that explores the role of e-portfolios in higher education and professional practices. We will inquire into how e-portfolios might be used to create a bridge between academic learning and professional identity and how educators can cultivate an e-portfolio culture in disciplines where this does not exist. Sessions consist of presentations by faculty and students from all disciplines, and employers, on topics including reflective and collaborative processes, digital literacy and online ethics, distinguishing between personal and professional identities.

What comes to mind when one thinks of the word e-portfolio? An e-portfolio is a representation of one’s work, knowledge, identity and experiences that exists on the internet. It is an online place or space, a personal website, a site that communicates an individual’s identity. It is an ongoing process and a representation of learning. It is an archive of one’s networked experience of learning. How is learning being represented and communicated in e-portfolios? Who and what are the agents in the creation and distribution of e-portfolios? What incites learners to become actively engaged with e-portfolios? What are the shared overlaps and differences between learning portfolios and career portfolios? What other kinds of online spaces function in similar ways to e-portfolios, and what might we learn from those practices?

With ongoing questions about the future of higher education, the role of technology in education, and approaches to teaching and learning, CIRCLE 2018 offers an opportunity for critical reflection of e-portfolios, successes and challenges, and potential possibilities for the future.
